I have been really encouraged to hear a few stories recently of people encountering the truth about God by just picking up a Bible and starting to read it. Even if they didn’t know what to believe about God to start with. The cool part is, most of the stories sound pretty similar. A person who once didn’t know what to believe, or even hated God picks up Bible. A few months later, their life has been turned upside down and they can’t put down the book. It’s a powerful book. “The word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” –Hebrews 4:12
The speaker at Sno-Camp last week challenged us that the best way to learn about God is to open up the book he wrote. I realize that can be a really daunting challenge, so I want to offer some pointers on how to understand what’s going on in the Bible. Over the next few weeks in youth, I’m gonna do an overview of the story the Bible tells, and I’m gonna recap it on the blog. I’m also going to show you some good places to start your reading.
If you were there last week, you heard me give some pointers about how to understand what’s going on. I’m gonna share them here.
I would do that right now, but Jessica is gonna be home any minute, and we’re gonna watch “Love Happens.” So stay tuned. For now, here’s the reading I suggested last week: Genesis 1-3.
